Devastating Wildfires in California
Jahnavi Rathore -
An unprecedented fire season is wreaking havoc across the western US, with the air quality plummeting and smog weltering cities. At least 15 people have been killed, with around 3000 people becoming homeless. As the situation spirals out of control, these wildfires are rapidly advancing towards suburbs. These wildfires are a threat to the homes and lives of millions of citizens with the conditions becoming pernicious. California wildfires, driven by extreme blazes,
have already burnt record-breaking acres of land this year. Fire officials state that the wildfires are raging so fast, that they are burning at a rate of 1000 acres per half-hour, being only 38% contained. The devastating fires are caused 84% by humans, which is of no surprise. What makes these fires harsh, costly, and extremely vicious is that most of the human infrastructure ends up in flames.
